It all started cleaning a house prior to sale, and the shower could not be cleaned to satisfaction. Much research followed, with chemistry training helping narrow potential options and after making many prototypes, Magic Kleen was created.
This shower screen was purchased from the local dump recycling center, and was totally covered in scale we believed if we could clean this we could clean anything!
And so it has turned out to be. This shower screen comes from one of North Queensland’s most hard water areas.
The Problem !
Scale that appears on shower screens predominantly, but also other glass, is often characterised as calcium scale. The reality is a little different. The scale appears to be a matrix of calcium and silica, so where there is a lot of silica in the water, cleaning is almost impossible, as silica is relatively inert.
The Magic Kleen contains a soft abrasive, and a safe powdered acid . The abrasive exposes the matrix, allowing the active ingredient to attack the calcium component, and at this stage the silica simply collapses.
